Israeli Military Reservists Ill-prepared for War, Watchdog Warns

The coronavirus pandemic contributed to a decline in the quality of training which had impaired the combat readiness of some units, military ombudsman finds

The military ombudsman has issued a harshly critical report on the state of Israel Defense Forces infantry reserve units, particularly their level of training in recent years.

The ombudsman, Brig. Gen. (res.) Eitan Dahan, recently submitted a draft of his report to senior IDF officers, who confirmed the reliability of the findings to Haaretz. The officers insist, however, that training of reserve units has recently been ramped up on the orders of IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Aviv
